NORFOLK TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

  • The Norfolk Teachers Association (NTA) is an organization of professionals who work with children in the Norfolk Public Schools. Teachers and support personnel including school psychologists and a variety of other licensed professional therapists come under this umbrella which does not include administrators. We are affiliated with the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), the National Education Association, and the Norfolk County Teachers Association, all of which provide professional development opportunities as well as educational support and information to members. MTA also provides legal services when needed.

The main purpose of the NTA is to support teachers in providing a high quality education for the children of Norfolk. In our bylaws, the first objectives are to provide for the welfare of the school children and to promote the highest professional practices in education. Our executive board represents the professional staff and works for open communication with the school administration and Norfolk School Committee.

Annual Scholarship - Graduating KP Senior Planning a Career in Education

We conduct one fundraiser each year that provides scholarships for King Phillip Regional High School graduating seniors from Norfolk who plan a career in education. Over the last thirteen years two or three scholarships of $800. to $1200. each have been awarded. The K.P. guidance department chooses the students who receive the scholarships at their student award night.

In conjunction with the annual Read Across America program, the Norfolk Teachers Association sponsors a raffle to raise funds for these scholarships.

Read Across America - National Education Association's Annual Celebration of Dr. Seuss

Read Across America is the National Education Association’s signature program. Started 1999, this program focuses on motivating children and their families to read. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together children and books. NEA’s Read Across America Day takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. In Norfolk, each school gathers at an assembly celebrating books and reading. Large decorated baskets of books, learning games, and gift certificates, all donated by teachers, are the grand prizes in this raffle. The drawings for the raffles are held at school assemblies. All of us look forward with great anticipation to the announcement of the winners of the four different prize baskets… and it might be you!

During the day many classrooms hold read-a-thons or other special events. Everyone looks forward to this annual day of celebration!
