PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

  •

The Norfolk Public Schools embrace the belief that children learn best in a safe and a caring environment and that all children are capable of learning and achieving at high levels.  The district’s rigorous curriculum allows children the opportunity to think critically, solve problems and communicate their experiences.  We believe our students develop stamina and discover the intrinsic rewards of achieving success through determination and persistence.  Therefore, we view mistakes as rich opportunities for learning.  Through guided practice, we help our students develop the habits of mind necessary to become independent, self-directed learners, who preserve in the face of challenge.  We recognize our responsibility to help our students become thoughtful, responsible, global citizens, who can work collaboratively, interact effectively with others, and respect cultural diversity.
